Our annual festive concert, honoring our namesake opens with the stately Idomeneo overture. Our Principal flautist, Patti Cloud, is featured, performing the G major Concerto. Mozart's Symphony No. 34 provides the amazing finale to this very special program. Brilliantly written, with a seemingly inexhaustible flair for melodic riches, Mozart's Symphony No. 34 demands virtuoso playing, especially in the spirited Finale. The breadth, grandeur and poise of the first movement are elicited with the simplest and most musical means. The wonderfully long–winded melodies of the second movement are profoundly moving, exquisitely beautiful and very humble in their devotion. The virtuoso Finale is full of joie de vivre with hints of the opening movement’s grandeur and is unmistakably Italiano.
